China Bistro: Reviews & Ratings

I'm not sure if the rating is only 3.3 at the moment bc Asian people rate harsh in general (they do!) or bc it wasn't as good before, but we had a phenomenal meal here. I don't usually write reviews for Chinese places in SGV bc most places are decent to great, otherwise they can't survive here. My two favorites for general Chinese in the area are Longten and Alice's kitchen, and China Bistro is my new 3rd favorite. It was a Saturday lunch so I think pricing was lunch pricing and portion wasn't huge, but it was just right for us. Everything was fresh and seasoned to perfection. Usually I feel super thirsty after a dining out meal, but not this time. It was just right, not too salty. My favorite dishes were the peppery cubed steak (similar to Vietnamese bo luc lac), Hainan chicken, and the eggplant with salted fish and ground pork (I think). The eggplant was a revelation - so soft and rich, and I already plan to get it next time. All the other dishes were great too - stir fried green beans, Kung Pao chicken, battered fried fish, some other stir fried beef dishes. They have a large area outdoor perfect for kids to run around when they can't be confined in their high chairs anymore. 11 dishes ran us $170 everything included (again, lunch portion so not huge). I think I've wasted much more than that on much less satisfying meals elsewhere.

I love coming here for authentic Cantonese food. The flavors are spot-on, and the dishes always hit the mark. The ambiance is simple and cozy, with a lively crowd that's often made up of Cantonese families, adding to the authentic vibe. The fish is a must-try, perfect for special occasions like birthdays or just a protein-rich treat, while the chicken with mushrooms and herbs is incredibly flavorful and satisfying. Their soups are delicious and comforting, rounding out the meal perfectly. The service is friendly and efficient, making the whole experience even better.

I haven't been here in years! Decided to order here for take-out. Only thing I was looking forward to was the Crispy Chicken but sad to say that they've ran out for about a week so I ended up having to try something else as the main course. I ordered their pork chop instead and ong choy. Was a bit disappointed to say the least as since I haven't been here for so long, I was looking forward to their crispy chicken. However, the pork chop wasn't too bad. Still crispy by the time I got home and nice portion. Tasted salty at first but it was decent. The ong choy portion was pretty generous. I think I've had the most here on one order and it was actually one of the best ones I've had so far. Portion size was great. Pricing wasn't too bad; cheaper than other places which makes it good bang for its buck. They also provide you free rice and free drink per dish so that was definitely another plus! Will have to try this place again and hopefully this time their crispy chicken!

I like coming here to eat cantonese food. Tastes really authentic. Lots of cantonese people eating here and yummy soup and cantonese flavors dishes. Highly recommended the fish for someone's birthday or just overall a protein rich meal. Chicken with mushroom and herbal is yummy and so flavorful. Soup is good too.

Maybe it's because I had a lower expectations for this place but I was pleasantly surprised so it's a solid 4 stars! Granted, the taste is just standard, it wasn't extra yummy or anything but it's passable. One item that shined was the beef noodle soup with wonton. It's also free refills for the HK tea coffee (my favorite and nostalgia from childhood)! Can't go wrong with that. Service was good but most likely bc we speak the language. Food arrived quickly and they gave us everything we asked for. Very nice casual place. Great price and portion ratio! My sister is vegan & there were a few dishes for her like the spicy garlic eggplant, on choy with garlic, soy sauce noodle.

I'm a sucker for bomb cantonese food and dare i say this is some really amazing canto food!! It's pretty basic with the chicken chow mein and garlic string beans, but the flavor ... is just impeccable. The garlic string beans were fried very well and had the perfect amount of garlicky flavor. There's a slight spice to it that really elevates the dish!! The chow mein is very good, the dry noodle has lots of flavor and is a cantonese classic. SUCH GOOD PRICE FOR THE PORTIONS. you will definitely get your moneys worth here!! 2 dishes were $30. will definitely want to come back and try so many other dishes!

Wow, it's been over 2 years since my last review. Let me offer an updated review. I used to do a lot of take-out from here for a very long while, but my youngest daughter halted on her Beef Chow Mein with crispy noodles a while back, hence, the take-out halted LOL. Anyway, last weekend, my Mom, my brothers and their famly, my daughters and I decided to come here for an early 2024 Lunar New Year lunch celebration. We originally had planned to go to Boston Lobster, but due to no parking available over there, we changed location. Lucky China Bistro got our patronage! I was the first one to arrive. I ended up ordering 16 dishes ahead of everyone's arrival. We pretty much eat the same dishes most of the time so I knew exactly what to order LOL. There were 3 dishes that were double orders, in other words, 2 plates of each, hence, we actually had 13 different dishes, but 16 dishes total. Funny, all the dishes had pretty much came out before my family arrived. Perfect timing! Lunch special prices have risen quite a bit. Depending on the food item, lowest price is $11.50, highest price is $14.50, and some in between. Portions were of good size. Flavors and taste were on point for all the dishes. No compliants! However, they need to invest in some lazy susan turntables. It took a little work to get foods to the other side of the table. I'm actually surprised they don't use turntables. Hmmm? Staff was really nice and accommodating to our requests. Thank you! Our table was inside which was great since it was a tad cold outside. Yes, they do have outside patio seating and if I recall, they do allow smoking outside unless that has been taken away (not 100% sure... you may want to check before getting a table outside). Below are all the food items I ordered... again, everything was deliciously yummy! Can't really go wrong with any dishes at China Bistro... On Lunch Special Menu: $12.50 1 Eggplant with Spicy Garlic Sauce 1 String Beans with Garlic $12.95 1 Sweet and Sour Pork 1 Deep Fried Squid with Spicy Salt 1 Sauteed Fish Fillet with Black Bean Sauce $13.50 2 Fried Chicken Wings with Spicy Salt (must get) 1 Chinese Broccoli with Dried Fish 1 House Special Chicken in Clay Pot $14.50 2 Filet Mignon in French Style (must get) 1 Shrimp with Scrambled Egg 2 Deep Fried Shrimp with Spicy Salt (must get) 1 Honey Walnut Shrimp Not On Lunch Special Menu: $19.50 1 Seafood Porridge (large) - added $3.00 worth of thousand egg (must get)
